Exploration + Process
I met with the owner frequently to discuss ideas, concepts and desired outcomes. After learning the goals, several ideas were presented. Each idea was created as a digital concept and applied to a mock up visual, to help convey how the mural idea would look and feel in an actual space. Together, we narrowed the ideas down based on my recommendations for what would or wouldn't work int he space and the wall location for each mural.
Strategy + Approach
With the concepts selected, I ordered and acquired the necessary materials, and worked directly with the on-site contractors to schedule when I was able to be in the space with the man lift.
The artwork was projected onto the walls to retain accurate scale. The penciled outlines were then hand painted using high quality interior paint, acrylics and Posca paint pens (for details).
I finished all four murals ahead of schedule, allowing the remaining construction to proceed unhindered.
UNDERSTANDING THE INDUSTRY
The owner is an a lover and supporter of the arts, and is an opera singer himself. In this project, I was allowed explore my artistic freedom to develop a space that was dripping with artistry, as high quality as the meats sold there.
The Outcome
The murals are part of the experience when visiting Tommy G's Meat & Sausage.
The shop gets consistently rave reviews about the meats of course, but also about how friendly and inviting the people and space is.
Making a Great First Impression
Tom returned to me to help design the vinyl wrap on the entry doors.
Working directly with local Auto Trim Design, I selected the pattern, layout, and colors to be printed and wrapped. This begins the experience before you even step inside.
